Message from CEO and CSC to Sea Cadet Corps
Added 05/05/2010
You will all be aware by now of the tragic death of one of our cadets whilst under training in TS Royalist over the weekend. This is an extremely sad and painful event for his family and friends, the cadets and volunteers who were with him onboard and the crew of TS Royalist. It is also very painful for the wider Sea Cadet family but thankfully events such as this are extremely rare. The civil authorities i.e. the Police and MAIB investigations are taking primacy, hence our inability to comment in detail. You will have seen the widespread coverage in the media and their interest is continuing. We are leading our public response and handling of the aftermath from HQ on your behalf. We have already received many messages of condolence and support for which we are incredibly grateful. Any public information from the HQ will be posted on the MSSC Website and T&A site. Support to the family of our cadet who died is being provided by his Unit CO and the Area team. We are keeping the wider community informed i.e. our supporters, the RN, MOD, our President, Chairman and Trustees. Once the MAIB have concluded their investigation, it is our intention for Royalist to resume training as soon as possible. Units wishing to pay their respects are authorised to fly their colours at half mast until 9 May (one week after the incident) and on the day of the funeral (to be promulgated in due course). We will ensure that our cadets, volunteers and staff who were involved are looked after. Our immediate concerns and thoughts are with the family of our young cadet who sadly lost his life in this tragic accident and our heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to them.
