Area Swimming Competition

Cadets from East Kilbride joined cadets from Helensburgh and Airdrie & Coatbridge units to form this years Clyde North District Swimming team at the Northern Area Sea Cadet Swimming Competition.
Held at HMS Caledonia in Rosyth the competition pits cadets from all across North England & Scotland against each other.

The competition was broken into 4 age categories with each age range being broken into Male or Female. The categories are:

JSC - 10 & 11yr olds
X - 12 to 14yr olds
Y - 15 & 16yr olds
Z - 17 & 18yr olds

The competition started with the butterfly races. Ordinary Cadet J Wilson started the district off with a silver medal in the Girls X class, Cadet K Hughes managed to pick up a respectable 5th in the boys X whilst Ordinary Cadet D Redstone of Helensburgh started off with his first of many Gold medals in the Boys Y Class Butterfly.

Next came the backstroke with Cadet A Boslam coming in 5th in her first race as a senior cadet in the girls X, Cadet A Doig got a silver medal in the girls Y, Cadet K Kelly of Airdrie & Coatbridge 6th in the boys X & Ordinary Cadet D Redstone got his 2nd gold in the Boys Y.
Next came the Breast Stroke races with Cadet E McArthur picking up bronze in the girls X, Cadet A Doig gold in the girls Y, Cadet M Murphy silver in the girls Z, Cadet K Kelly 4th in the boys X, and Able Cadet K McQuarrie 4th in the boys Y.

In the freestlye races Cadet E McArthur picked up bronze (Girls X), Able Cadet C Frame silver (Girls Y), Cadet M Murphy 4th (Girls Z), Ordinary Cadet A Wilson 7th (Boys X), and Able Cadet K McQuarrie (Boys Y).

The Individual Medley proved to be a good competition for the district. In the Girls X Ordinary Cadet J Wilson picked up bronze, in the girls Y Cadet A Doig picked up silver, in the girls Z Cadet M Murphy also picked up silver, in the boys X Cadet K Hughes came in 5th, and finishing his hattrick of gold medals Ordinary Cadet D Redstone came in 1st in the boys Y.

Throughout the day there were races for the Junior Sea Cadet sections. In the Breast stroke JSC S Boslam claimed bronze in the female race whilst JSC L McGeehan picked up silver in the boys.
JSC S Boslam also came in 4th in the girls Freestyle whilst JSC A Glenesk picked up gold in the boys Freestyle.

As a result of the days competitions the district came in 3rd overall with the following results

Gold Medals - 5
Silver Medals - 7
Bronze Medals - 5
4th Place - 4
5th Place - 3
6th Place - 1
7th Place - 1
8th Place - 0

X Girls - 2nd out of 8
Y Girls - 3rd out of 8
Z Girls - 2nd out of 8
X Boys - 3rd out of 8
Y Boys - Overall Winners
Z Boys - Did not enter.
